Hebburn Helps visit

Stephen Hepburn MP for the Jarrow Constituency visited a local Food Bank in Hebburn recently and saw the brilliant work there to put food on the tables of families in South Tyneside.

The Jarrow MP went to Hebburn Helps Community Food Bank, based in Campbell Park Road, Hebburn, where he met with founders Angie Comerford and Jo Durkin, and their team of volunteers who run the service and the people who use it.

Hebburn Helps started in June 2015 and the charity has so far helped individuals and families from our region in their time of need.  The Food Bank provides food parcels, adults clothing, kids clothing, baby equipment, toys, household items and more.

Stephen Hepburn MP said:

“It was a pleasure to visit Hebburn Helps and their wonderful team who are helping so many people in the area through their time of need.

I can’t speak highly enough of each of the brilliant volunteers from all of our local charities and organisations who all pull together to help people in the borough who are now turning to food banks because they’ve got no choice.

“Food bank usage across South Tyneside has rocketed 300 per cent since 2010 because the Tory government have placed the biggest squeeze on people’s incomes since the Victorian times.

“Families should not be left with having to go to a Food Bank in this day and age in one of the richest countries in the world and this government should be ashamed.”
