Pride Media Centre

Stephen Hepburn MP for the Jarrow constituency has welcomed the unveiling of the UK’s first LGBT+ Media and Business Hub in Pelaw, Gateshead.

The Pride Media Centre – on the site of what was formerly Gateshead’s Stonehill Studios – is the first of its kind in the UK and will establish a business centre exclusively for the Lesbian, Gay, Bisexual & Transgender community and allies. 

The Actor, Writer, LGBTactivistand Stonewallco-founder, Lord Michael Cashman CBE, was in attendance this Friday to perform the official opening.

The hub will be the home of the newly-established, not-for-profit, Pride Community Network and will not only house the LGBT+ community radio station Pride Radio 89.2fm but will also create a suite of incubator offices for members of the community and allies who are need of support in starting up a business.   

The 17,000 square foot centre has been refurbishedand now has facilities which includesa large drive in film and television studio, green screen studio, 30-seater cinema, gallery space, two radio studios,podcast suite and 16 offices for new business.

"The centre will be a hub for the local LGBT+ community and their allies, offering support in regard to both business but also wider community outreach, providing a vital safe environment to people who may feel excluded, vulnerable or isolated.


"Everyone involved, not least Gateshead Council, have worked extremely hard to get the project off the ground and I am sure that it will be a huge success, and make a big difference in the lives of many people in our area.”

Stephen Hepburn has served the Jarrow Constituency as MP since 1997.

He was last elected to serve in June 2017 and won the seat with a conclusive 17,263 majority.
