Stephen Hepburn MP for the Jarrow Constituency has today slammed the Tory government following the latest release of local unemployment figures.

According to official figures published from the House of Commons Library, the total number of unemployed claimants in the Jarrow constituency in June 2019 was 2,410 – a 30 per cent increase over the past 12 months.  


The number of claimants in Jarrow constituency is 560 higher than in June 2018.  There were 485 claimants aged 18-24 in June 2019, 140 higher than June 2018 – a 40 per cent increase. 


Stephen Hepburn MP said:


“Over the past nine years the Tories have failed this area and these latest unemployment figures tell you everything you need to know where this government’s priorities lie.

We need a fairer, decent economy for all that Labour's pledged to build.”
