Public services

Stephen Hepburn MP for the Jarrow Constituency has confirmed Labour’s commitment to expand the range of public services free at the point of use including childcare, post-school education, bus travel for under-25s and school meals.

In 2017 Labour promised tens of billions more for free-at-the-point-of-use healthcare and schools, as well as a new National Care Services, free school meals, free further and higher education and billions more to fund universal free childcare for 2-4 year olds.

• Labour pledged last year to make bus travel free for under 25s and today announced free personal care for all over 65s in England.

• A large component of Labour ‘s commitment to ending in-work poverty in July 2019 was about establishing the principle of universalism and strengthening and expanding public services free at the point of use.

Stephen Hepburn MP said:

“We need collective solutions to society’s problems. Universal Services tackle poverty, reducing inequalities and improve wellbeing for all.

“Labour will expand public services free at the point of use including childcare, personal care, post-school education, bus travel for under-25s and school meals for primary school children.”
