Union Check Offs

The Jarrow MP has strongly voiced his concerns at the proposed government ban on ‘check off’, which allows public sector members to hand over subs through their pay packets.

The move will affect up to 3.8 million public sector workers who under the plans will lose the right to have their trade union subscriptions automatically deducted from their pay cheques.

Mr Hepburn believes that this is yet another Tory assault on workers’ rights.

The Jarrow MP said:

“The Tories label themselves as a party for workers but this latest assault is a callous and ideological attack on the rights of trade union members in the workplace.

“This shows how far the Tories will go to deny our nurses, teaching assistants, and public sector workers a voice at work.

“Labour is committed to check-off and the government should abandon their plans to scrap it.”
